Four-volume set bound in half-vellum and marbled boards: A collection of Scarce and Valuable Tracts … chiefly such as relate to the History and Constitution of [Britain and Ireland] … principally from the Library of Lord Somers. Published 1809-1810. These are drawn mostly from the reign of Elizabeth I to that of Charles I covering a very turbulent period in Irish – English relations (The Nine Years War, The Plantation of Ulster, The 1641 Rising) and a time of upheaval in Britain itself (The Civil War). There is an extensive section given over to Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford, sometime Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. Included are 8 fold-out plates at the rear of Vol II relating mostly to ‘troubles’ in Ireland. All in excellent condition
